L2Paths - Pathways to Host Country Languages for Migrants

The aim of the project is to help people coming to a new country to acquire their host country language. It will help them to find the best way to learn, taking into account their own learning styles, preferences, and time constraints. Learning the host country language is the key to successful integration and employability.

The project partners will achieve this goal by,

  • Developing a programme for training professional language advisers
  • By training a number of new language advisers
  • By establishing language advice centres
  • By creating a tool called path-finder for matching a person's needs with the learning options available
  • By developing and implementing a standardised format for a personal learning plan with progress tracking functionality.

What will be done in the project

The overriding objective of the project is to facilitate labour force mobility across Europe by making the acquisition of a new language easier for migrants moving to a new country, whether they come as adults who have already left education, as vocational, or as third-level students. The project aims to pursue this goal by the training of language advisers, the implementation of language advice centres, and the building of a specialised tool for creating a personal language learning plan.

The project will create an ICT tool called Path-Finder, freely accessible on the internet, for helping migrants to identify the optional pathways for learning the language in the L1 country, for matching their needs and learning styles to the pathways available, and for creating a personal learning plan with a progress tracking function. The Path-Finder system will also assist the partners to reach more migrants and to help them with their language learning goals.

As well as for migrants, the Language advisers, language advice centres, and the path-finder system will be available for anyone in any sector that is seeking the best way to learn the language in a new country. This includes adult learners returning to education, vocational learners who need the language to access work in their field.

From 15th to 16th October 2014 the international partner group of the L2Paths project met in Kristianstad, Sweden. We met in the Folk Universitetet to have very inspiring meetings and conversations about the pathfinder developement as well as the train the trainer. Please find some pictures above to get an impression about the meeting.

Training of the Language Advisors: The first language advisor training will take place in March 2015 in Todi, Italy. The training will include the following topics:

  • Neurolinguistic programming and communication
  • Negotiation techniques
  • Conflict resolution
  • Interpersonal and intercultural skills

All project partners will offer this training course in their home countries starting in spring 2015. If you have any questions about the training course or if you are interested in taking part in one of the courses, please contact us at: info@l2paths.eu.
